Cimex lectularius, better known as the bed bug, is a tiny, reddish-brown insect that feeds on human blood. About the size of an apple seed, these pests typically hide in mattress seams, box springs, and small furniture crevices. Bed bugs are mostly active at night and can conceal themselves in tiny areas, such as fabric folds, electrical sockets, and behind picture frames.
Bed bugs go through five stages of growth before reaching adulthood. Each stage requires a blood meal for the bug to molt to the next. Females can lay up to five eggs each day, often in hidden spots. Bed bugs are capable of surviving for months without feeding. While they don’t spread diseases, their bites may lead to itching and allergic reactions.
Cimex Hemipterus is a bed bug species found mainly in tropical and subtropical climates. Like the more common Cimex lectularius, these bugs feed on the blood of humans and other warm-blooded animals. They are tiny, reddish-brown insects that grow up to 4-5 mm in length. Their oval, flat shape helps them hide in tight spaces such as cracks and crevices.
Although Cimex hemipterus is usually active at night, it can also bite during the day, especially in hot or dry conditions. They tend to nest near water sources to ensure their young have enough moisture. If you think you have an infestation, check for these bugs near beds and other places where people rest. Common signs include small blood spots on sheets, dark fecal smears, and shed skins.
Leptocimex Boueti bed bugs can pose a significant nuisance if they enter your home. They typically feed on humans, mainly at night, but may emerge during the day if conditions are too hot or dry. These pests favor areas close to water sources to provide their larvae with drinking water, even though they themselves are not aquatic.
Adult Leptocimex Boueti bed bugs resemble the size of an apple seed and have a flat, oval-shaped body. Their color is reddish-brown, which deepens after feeding. They feature long antennae and distinct compound eyes that look like raspberries. Equipped with three pairs of legs, their bodies can expand while feeding. If you suspect an infestation, it’s important to act quickly. Penryn Pest Control can help you handle these pests and prevent them from becoming a bigger problem.
Bed bug eggs are extremely small and hard to spot, roughly the size of a pinhead at about 1mm long. Their pearl-white color allows them to blend seamlessly with light-colored surfaces. After about five days, a faint eye spot may appear on the eggs, making them slightly easier to detect.
Female bed bugs typically lay their eggs in concealed, secure areas close to their food sources. You can often find these eggs in mattress seams, inside box spring crevices, and under baseboards. A female bed bug can lay up to five eggs per day, with these eggs hatching in about 4-12 days. If not properly addressed, these eggs can hatch and lead to new infestations.
Bed bug nymphs are young bed bugs that go through five developmental stages before reaching adulthood. These nymphs are smaller and lighter in color than adult bed bugs, making them difficult to detect. Each stage of development requires a blood meal to molt to the next. The feeding process typically takes about 5-10 minutes.
You’ll often find nymphs hiding near sleeping or resting areas, such as in mattress seams, bed frames, and tiny cracks. Evidence of their presence includes pale, tiny bugs and small blood stains on bedding. Effective treatment focuses on these hiding spots to eliminate all nymphs.
Bed bugs are small, reddish-brown insects, about the size of an apple seed, with flat, oval bodies that become elongated after feeding. These insects are nocturnal and feed on human blood, often biting their victims during sleep.
Bed bugs tend to hide in areas close to where people rest, such as in mattress seams, bed frames, box springs, and nearby furniture. They can also hide behind electrical outlets and under picture frames. Signs of an infestation include small red blood spots, dark brown fecal stains, and shed skins. Regular inspections of these areas can help detect and control bed bug infestations early on.
At Penryn Pest Control, our bed bug treatment process begins with a thorough inspection carried out by our experienced inspectors. They pinpoint bed bugs using photos or telltale signs and offer a preparation sheet with detailed instructions. Before treatment, customers should remove items from walls, thoroughly vacuum affected areas, and wash all bedding and clothing. Our experts treat the entire room, paying special attention to the legs of furniture, moldings, cracks, crevices, bed frames, headboards, box springs, and mattresses. The fabric on the underside of the box spring needs to be removed for optimal treatment. Post-treatment, the area should be vacant for at least three hours.
We typically advise 3-4 treatment sessions, tailored to the severity of the infestation. Costs are assessed after the initial inspection. Our treatments are safe for pets, although we recommend vacating the premises for 3-4 hours during and after treatment. We provide a 30-day warranty for treatments that cover the entire home. To avoid future infestations, follow our preventive guidelines and maintain cleanliness. Our methodical and effective strategies ensure complete bed bug removal, giving our clients peace of mind.
We provide a free follow-up treatment two weeks after the initial bed bug service. During this visit, we apply an insect growth regulator to disrupt the bed bugs’ life cycle. This ensures that any eggs or young bed bugs are effectively handled, preventing them from developing into adults.
Our technicians will re-inspect the treated areas to look for any remaining bed bug activity. This additional check offers another layer of security and reassurance. With our follow-up, you can trust that we are dedicated to thoroughly eliminating bed bugs from your home.
